I was not pleased with my stay here. The primary reason is that the air conditioning was not working in the rooms, and although it wasn’t terribly hot, an open window was still needed to sleep comfortably, but I was awoken several times by the occasional street noise and then by city workers chopping down a tree at 5:50am. The air conditioning situation was certainly beyond their control and the staff was pleasant enough in explaining it, but I feel like a gesture beyond an apology should have been offered - a drink, complimentary breakfast, anything to compensate guests for not receiving something they have paid for such as a comfortable temperature. Other notes - I didn’t particularly enjoy buzzing into a locked door and climbing up the stairs with a suitcase to access the lobby or lounge. I was also put off by the over-commercialization at work in the common areas - every corner had something to sell with a big price tag on it. I thought this was especially tasteless in the kitchen area. Again, maybe I just felt stupid paying €3 for a bottle of water when I paid €173 for a room without temperature control. There was too much here that was annoying for me to consider this a positive stay, and at that price, there are various better value options around Hamburg center.
