I visited the store with my mother who was looking to buy a rolex. After visiting another retailer that told us all their pieces were on display only, we dropped by to this Bucherer outlet and asked the doorman if they were selling rolexes and he said yes, but none of the sales assistants were available at the moment so we decided to return the next day.
When we returned, granted 30 minutes to closing, the staff were all keeping the watches (which is fine, I understand retail and store closure procedures) but we were the only customers there and no one acknowledged us after we got our vaccinations checked. We literally stood awkwardly at the door near the rolex table trying to catch someone’s attention. I don’t know if this is typical of Europe as it is my first time here but as someone who has traveled around asia and is from sg, customer service is never like this, even in a mass clothing store like Zara, there will always be someone willing to help you regardless. And as someone who have worked in the luxury industry and even got a glimpse into the watch industry, I got the understanding that the price you are paying is not only for the quality, brand status and craftsmanship, but for the entire consumer experience! This store clearly did not get that memo, so much for marketing communications and “taking pride in service” (i mean we were the only ones in the store)
When we finally grabbed a sales assistant’s attention, it was clear that he wanted to just clear his things and not serve us. He said that none of the Rolexes were for sale and were all for display pieces. and that there were essentially no rolexes in the whole of germany and (worldwide) for sale. How does that even make any sense. I don’t know if the system for purchasing a rolex has changed and is on a waiting list or order system compared to the past but he didn’t bother exposing it. He also said that we should go back and buy in our country lol micro aggression muxh? Sorry we aren’t white???
If germany has this new policy where tourists aren’t allowed to purchase watches FINE but clearly he didn’t bother explaining and just wanted us out the store. Wow Bucherer and Rolex such service and exclusivity I guess? Seems to me that your staff are snobbish and not interested in making their commission! So much for revitalising the tourist sector and consumer economy!
Seriously I thought shopping in europe was suppose to be the best experience but I thought wrong.
If anyone asks, why not just go to the Rolex store itself? Well there is a Rolex/ Patek Phillipe store across the road which i think are also run by Bucherer (i could be wrong) and they won’t even let you in without making an appointment (by calling). Not the best if you’re travelling on a tight timeline but just take note of you’re interested in going. Not sure if you can actually purchase anything though since the sales person from Bucherer made it sound like there’s not a single piece in the entire germany for sale. Didn’t even bother answering our question when we asked if we can buy in Berlin.
