Gothic architecture at its finest, I couldn’t get enough of any view of Frankfurt that includes this amazing cathedral! The interior is not as impressive, but still beautiful. In the entrance you ‘ll also read about the church and old town during WWII, so interesting. I don’t know if any visits up the tower are permitted, but I ‘ll love to climb up there next time I’m in Frankfurt!

Very iconic cathedral - due to its importance as a former election and coronation church of the Holy Roman Empire.

Built with red dark stone, this 95 meters tall building is a major dominant of ''old'' Frankfurt. The interior is decorated with a beautiful shade of red that is not so typical for cathedrals and that is what makes this place quite unique in my eyes. There are some nice pieces of art, furniture and decorations, although it is quite a simple building, and there are definitely more impressive cathedrals around Germany. I appreciated the stained glass windows with pastel colors and I was impressed by the floorplan of the cathedral, as it is as wide as long, which I didn't notice until I was walking inside the transepts.

Cathedral (Dom) is wheelchair accessible and located just a few meters from the U-Bahn stop of the same name. The entry is free, however there is a museum located in the other part of the cathedral and requires purchasing a ticket. Great addition to the cathedral tour is the climb to its tower and seeing the Frankfurt skyline!

Interesting fact: It was pretty much the last standing building after the 1944 bombarding of Frankfurt - that and more you can read at the entrance to the cathedral.

Visited in July 2022.

Breathtaking Gothic Cathedral. With its Medieval/Roman Empire air, it not only has the biblical paintings, scriptures and statues, but also carries the Frankfurter tradition, legacy and design. Amazing energy.

Cathedrals are always impressive. This cathedral certainly does not let one down in any way. It is well worth visiting and can be seen in less than 30 minutes.

Situated in the heart of Frankfurt and has interesting information in the front diagrammatically showing the damage during WWII and the repairs that were made. The interior is fairly modern appearing compared to most of the churches that we visited.

There are around 300+ steps to climb for climbing up the tower. The stairwells are winding and narrow.

If you are looking for a fantastic view of Frankfurt, make sure to visit the spire of the cathedral. It is quite a walk up there, but it is worth the effort. However, you won't be able to go to the very top.

If you want to get that special view, you need to book a tour into the roof. On this tour they also take you to the very top of the spire where you will find a little museum and a view that very few people have seen. You will also get to see the Gloriana, the bell of the cathedral. With 11.950 kg it is a heavy-weight and you might even be allowed to hit it once (As I was allowed.)

The tour is incredible, but it is only offered a few times a year and you have to book a long time in advance. Ask at the ticket counter.
