This is a really cool and cozy museum. Knowing some German is a must. The space is quite intimate and the building dates back to the fourteenth century. Most of the cartoons are political and deal with current social issues. Many are quite irreverent. Quite a few - especially in the permanent exhibition - are associated with representatives of the so-called New Frankfurt School. The place might not be particularly exciting to very young children. It is definitely one of the museums to visit when you are in town.

Nice place with lots of jokes, caricatures and comics. Some of the jokes and images are 18+ so make sure not to bring your kids :) Note that almost all the jokes are in German, without translation to English. Also, they have happy hours from 5 to 6 PM when entrance fee is half the normal. The hour is perfectly sufficient to make a full round on the museum

It's hilarious! Loved the experience:)

Just for information...all caricatures are in German. So if any non-german person wants to visit, pls arrange for a translator.

The museum is really well organized but I do not recommend it if you don't speak German since you won't be able to understand what's written

I visited this museum in September. The museum is great, but the staff (the atmosphere) is terrible. I have visited many museums in the world, but I experienced such an unfriendly attitude towards the visitors only in this one. When I gave personal data for a "Corona" anquete, I spoke English. I must say that all works in this museum are presented in German. I can read and understand German, but I find it stressfull to speak it. The staff didn't tell me a word about my English while I was paying for the museum and submitting my data to the "Corona" anquete. But as soon as I began to explore the carucatures, they began to discuss why I go to this museum if I speak English just behind my back. I understood everything, but decided not to pay attention. But when they started wondering what country I am from and took the "Corona" anquete with all my data to find my country, I asked them to stop discussing me. They fell silent, but only for a few minutes. Then they began to discuss their daily affairs. Loud and without pauses. I must say that the acoustics is perfect here, and all this noise accompanies you on the first and second floors. It destroys concentration, but who cares? You cannot enjoy art here, unless you are deaf or use the earplugs. But you can easily get here a headache because of all these endless and loud talks between the staff!

Much less than hoped for. The entire ground floor was the work of one writer/artist pair, mostly political or social. Several were of Germany's participation in Afghanistan. Many were anti-islamic.
Upstairs focused on 5 artists, most were more artistic than comic.
There is a much better museum of comic art in Brussels; I wholeheartedly recommend it.
