As others have already mentioned, this tower was part of the old Roman fortifications. The city has certainly done a good conservation job as the tower is in remarkably good condition and many of the decorations such as geometric patterns that adorn the exterior are well preserved.

It doesn't appear to be possible to enter the tower, what you see from the outside is all you get. It's interesting, but well off the tourist circuit in Cologne. So I wouldn't go out of the way to see it.

Different patterns in the rock tower that are interesting to see. Also interesting to see how such an old structure is incorporated into a medieval building with very modern buildings across the street.

The Romans left us many beautifull things. The tower is not that high. You can not walk around it because other buildings are leaning against it. I do not know if this was the case at that time period, maybe the citywall. You could easily miss it as a tree puts it in its shade and a busy street passes cars swiftly by.

This roman fortification building of the 50th year of our era is interesting for its sacred ornament. On the wall of the tower we can see solar symbols and the pictogram of the temple. It is the unical roman tower kind in Cologne.

Cool ancient ruin. Always amazes me to see stuff like this when I'm in Europe.
