There are limited activity places to take small kids in Cologne, so the Odysseum is somewhat of a blessing. However, unless you plan your trip right, it will be very crowded and not worth taking any children below the age of 5. We have a 2yr old which we took before 11am. It was pretty quiet when we arrived on a Saturday at that time, yet the Dino jungle was still pretty full. In reality, much of the Odysseum isn't suitable for kids under 5, yet for some kids, simply being outside the house and in an interesting new place which new things to discover, is still a good time. The best parts for small kids as the UV play room, the create your own fish area and the building blocks area. I think it was approximately 2 hrs worth of play for our 2yr old.
By the time we left, there were large queues and it was getting very busy.
Highly recommend for parent with kids over 5

A good place for young kids in Cologne (a city that doesn’t have much for kids to do), though it’s overpriced. My kids were 2 and 5 and we spent 5 hours there and they still did not wanna leave. We went there on Thursday and it was very empty. (Remember to check opening time because they open not often. And we bought tickets online one day ago and their ticketing system was crab.) There were many toys and even VR games for free. However, with this price, surprisingly there were not that many high tech interactive games (some were even out of order), only 3 small size exhibition/interactive game halls (Jungle, Smurf, the Mouse). Other then that there were 1 inland skating hall, which I don’t understand why they offer this, and 2 halls full of branded toys and board games and books (Yes, we paid that much to play toys and games -.- ). Very few staff there so we could hardly ask when we did not know how the games work. We didn’t go to the outdoor playground because it was completely exposed to the sun and it was very hot. At 4pm we went to the cafe at the entrance area, but they sold only chocolate bars, muffins, brezels and drinks. So I recommend to bring your own food.

Oh dear - believe the bad reviews! The Odysseum is shockingly overpriced and lazily executed. As others have commented, many of the exhibits are broken or unusable (the various high tech exibits and games were a dead loss, most of them completely unresponsive). Many of the zones comprise activities you'd expect to be able to do for free at a library or community centre, like playing a board game or playing with Lego. Our 3 and 6 year old did enjoy Smurf World, and the section where you coloured in sea creatures which you could then scan in to a big screen underwater display. However, we struggled to fill our 90 minute time slot, and as adults were bored stiff for most of the visit. In fairness, the Museum of the Mouse looked as though it might have been fun for older children who could read German. Otherwise, the Odysseum lacks any educational value, and has limited entertainment value.

Brilliant concept but poorly executed. Not enough guidance on each section on how it works. Loads of bits not working. Requires a level of German that we did not possess, especially the Museum mit day Maus. Glad we only paid for 1.5 hours rather than full day. Kids (11 and 13) had fun but definitely designed for younger kids maybe 5-10.

Excellent, interactive science museum with various themes and lots of hands on stuff to do and some 3D cinema/live shows. Sometimes they have special exhibitions. Plenty to keep all the family interested although very young kids might bore easily. You need a certain level of German as not all of it is available in English.
Loses a star for the restaurant that was quite poor and very pricy.

#Amazing #children #knowledge #playground #activities for kids. It was again a great trip. A lot of stuff to learn for kids and adults as well. Playground outside is lovely made including the pirate ship. A climbing garden inside is also great fun! So if you are next to Cologne with you school kids, make a trip to Odysseum! Meet the famous WDR Mouse (orange) , Elephant (blue) and the Duck (yellow)!!! Children can paint on a lighttable or there are some computers to do a stop motion video from the three animals and further more.

Great place to spend the whole day in, so do buy the day ticket ! Only thing is that most activities are for kids around 5 years or older
