Also known as St. Mary’s Assumption (in Cologne). A unique church in its own right. The largest church in Cologne after the Cathedral. Worth a visit and also close to the central station.

St. Mary's Assumption in Cologne

The Catholic parish church of St. Mary of the Assumption was after the cathedral for a long time the largest church in Cologne and is one of the few remaining architectural evidence of Baroque in the city. The former collegiate church of the Jesuits, located on Marzellenstraße near the cathedral. It has heavy wrought-iron fences outside and inside. The inside fences prevent you from enjoying the relics.

Last Saturday we got at the church planning for a visit. Apparently a marriage was scheduled at 14:30 and at 14:05 we were not allowed entrance.
Plain ridiculous.

The do service in italian. It is a wonderful church for Catholics. It may look massive from outside but there is not that much space for people from inside but that doesn't make it bad because its structure is built that way and it is unique in its own way. It is also quite different from rest of the churches in Cologne. It located near the central station as well. It is worth visiting when it is the time of Christmas. Have a visit and see for yourself.

ST.Mary of the Assumption is the only Parish Church built 1629 in Cologne in Baroque Style and was at it's time the second largest Church after the Cathedral. The architecture is unique and worth a visit.

The Catholic parish church of St. Mary of the Assumption was (after the cathedral) for a long time the largest church in Cologne and is one of the few remaining buildings of Baroque in the city. The former collegiate church of the Jesuits, located on Marzellenstraße near the cathedral, was built according to the plans of Christoph Wamser, who had already built the Jesuit church in Molsheim in Alsace. This church also served as a role model for the construction of St. Mary's Ascension. The foundation stone was laid in 1618.
