Very spacious and light room with nice balcony (could use some seats on the balcony).
Few complaints -
Booked a double room but the beds were not double, just 2 singles pushed together which kept moving apart causing one of us to fall down the middle. The windows in the bathroom/shower are completely transparent for neighbours to see when you are showering. Bathroom was not cleaned to high standard - there were used shampoo sachets in the shower when we arrived.

However, a pleasant stay apart from this.

For a two-star hotel, and compared to the alternatives, I think we paid a fair price (70€ for a 3-person, 4-bed room). The room and the bathroom were clean, though not even handsoap was provided (we asked the reception and we got a used tablet...). The location is very good (10-min walk from main train station).

i can't say about other rooms, but mine was clean enough and comfortable at the top floor of the building. only things missing were a refrigerator (one of the small ones at least), some A/C (it can get hot inside during warm months and i doubt the small fan is enough) and more electricity plugs to charge your phone and other stuff.
the best part about this place is how well it is located (near the Dom, the Hauptbahnhof and the U-Bahn).
i would definitely recommend this hotel if you're on a budget !

hotel is what I was looking for for 1 night, room and bathroom is clean, small room but is sufficient for me to book for a festival or a concert, that's all I needed. only no breakfast options

The service wasn't bad from the reception but the hotel isn't 2 stars is just a old place with some like ugly rooms. Really old and in bad conditions, is not really healthy with old and disgusting mattress, dirty carpet, walls and windows, and disgusting and awful stuff on the bathroom. In the first room that we had the shower was with a yellow color from no clean it, everything was broken.
When the staff changed our room, was some better but everything broke (room and bath stuff)

Would be better close a few months and renew it because to pay 40€/night for that it's a joke.

The hotel's only redeeming factors are its location and the friendly staff.

They also say that have free WiFi... which is technically correct. The problem is, the WiFi won't connect anywhere outside the hotel lobby.

Sure, the building is old - but it's not only old, it's also in dire need of refurbishment.
The first room we were given the keys to was tiny and very sparsely furnished. As I was tired from the journey I went to take a shower.
The showerhead had to be held in hand the entire time as the mounting was broken. The water wouldn't drain, and the drain cover would happily float away. The complimentary towels had holes...
Fortunately the friendly staff did what they could to offer us a different room.
The second room was... a bit better. Well, less bad. It had the same size as the first one. The furniture looked like it was taken from someone else's bulk rubbish, the bathroom light switch fell off the wall at the first touch, I found disassembled smoke alarms in the cupboard drawer, the shower doors were hanging by a thread, the probably sixty year old window didn't block out any noise from outside whatsoever, and the curtain didn't block out the slightest bit of sunlight - It was basically impossible for me to sleep. The soundscape would have been the same if I had just pitched a tent on the roof.

Clean sheets and bathroom and an easy drag of a suitcase from the station. Also an easy walk to the Altstadt. However no work appears to have been done on it since a previous brief visit in 2012. The carpets are horrific both in and outside the rooms. You will be wanting to minimise the time you spend in your room!
