Set with the beautiful Grunewald Forest behind it, the Brücke-Museum derives its name from the famous artist group "Die Brücke" who played a pivotal role in the rise of "Expressionism" in the world of art as it houses the largest collection of Expressionist paintings by the group in the whole world.

The Brücke-Museum building was built as a low-rise building with an inner courtyard and four exhibition rooms based on plans by Werner Düttmann. It was opened on September 15, 1967 and its collection includes a donation from the famous painter Karl Schmidt-Rottluff to the State of Berlin.

Although difficult to reach without a car, the collection will thrill any fan of German expressionism. Well curated, with only a little information in English, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the building is well suited to the exhibition and it has plenty of seating and carpet to dull the chatter from other visitors.

The adjoining Dalhem Museum has an overpriced cafe. A stroll in the Grünewald woods is recommended, unless you're afraid of dogs.

Die Brücke Museum caters to art-lovers foremost. Although I was initially disappointed about the lack of works from Nolde, signage clearly indicated this was in deference to the Nolde exhibition running at Hamburger Bahnhof. The awareness of the broader Berlin art scene is appreciated.

This was the main destination of my two-day visit to Berlin, and I was not disappointed.

Recent facelift(?) at Atelierhaus Dahlem and cafe next to Brücke makes this museum experience more favourable.
The museum normally concentrates on Brücke artist group, whose colour and strokes are unique and wonderful. Exhibition is good size (meaning not too big) and its surroundings are quiet and full of green.

The new addition, a cafe in Atelierhaus Dahlem, made me smile. Those two museums stand in the woods and it used to have not much of cafe experience. Now it offers in and outside sitting area and even sitting outside under the green is worth (to visit cafe, you do not need to pay for entrance fee).

But I love to add o say, the current exhibition at Atelierhaus Dahlem - Vorstell anf Lurie - was great, and coupled with Brücke, it costs only 8 euro per person is not bad at all.

On a sunny day, you can enjoy walking from Grünwald SBahn (but it might take 20 ro 30 minutes), or you get off at SBahn Hohenzollerndamm or UBahn Fehbellinerplatz and take 115 bus to Pücklerstraße or Brücke Museum.

Small and cozy museum, great experience. If you love expressionism, you'd loved it here.

Even though the museum was a little small, the collection was breath taking. Really beautiful and interesting pieces of expressionistic art. Also the people working there were lovely. I can definitely recommend :)

Lovely little museum with modern impressionist art. A bit small but worth a visit if you’re in the area. Don’t forget to visit the small garden out back.
