I stayed at the Flag for just over a week recently.
First the good points!
- the beds are comfortable
- the gym is small but a good addition and fine for business trips
- SOME of the staff are friendly and helpful
What I didn’t enjoy as much…
- I sleep with earplugs so it was fine for me, but if you are facing the street there is some sort of loading company which works VERY early hours and can be heard
- if you are used to blackout blinds (which honestly I believe should be standard in any hotel), then your night will end with the sunrise, especially if you are on the side which the sun rises - which I was. I had attached a picture below of how bright it was one morning. The electric blinds are made of a soft material rather than metal, and the sun can blast right through them. Although you can see a shadow at the top of this picture, that is from the balcony above and I can assure you that the blinds were down in the picture (believe it or not!!)
- there is one staff member in particular who, after reading some more reviews, I am shocked she still has a job. When I explained my situation with the bright mornings, she was incredibly rude, was short of rolling her eyes at me, and even walked off mid-conversation. From some other reviews here I can say with certainty that it is the same women (slim, blonde hair). She made me feel totally uncomfortable and like I was asking far too much. Other staff members tried to tell me that I did not even have the blinds down when I showed them the picture which is simply not the case. As someone who is sensitive to light at night, I can assure you that the blinds were down. They simply are not effective for sunny mornings where the sun rises directly where the room faces. I was made feel embarrassed and stupid after that interaction.
- I have given 3 rather than 2 stars because the housekeeping were kind enough to give me some white sheets to drape over the windows which made some difference.
