I met my husband after work for a picnic, pretty flowers and grass spots looking onto the fountain, lovely at sunset. It's a popular spot for people to meet for a drink after work. On a main road but the buildings on the other side are grand too look at.

Nice garden with a lot of diferent varieties flowers. It is really colorfull and beautiful. There is also some shade, so you can seat and relax a little bit. The water is very clean which is not very offen in that big cities. I really recomend visit.

On the south side of the Old Botanical Gardens (now just a park), is this interesting fountain. It depicts a muscular statue of Neptune in the middle of the fountain, holding a trident on his shoulder, above a sea horse rising from the water, with two children pouring water into the fountain. The sculpture was created in 1937 at the behest of the National Socialist government, which might explain it's rather Germanic interpretation of Neptune.

I prefer my Neptune to be a bit more Classical.

Probably the most interesting thing to see at the Old Botanical Garden in Munich is the Neptune Fountain (Neptunbrunnen). This sculptural fountain was created in 1937 by German sculptor Josef Wackerie.

Here you find a stone sculpture and muscular figure of the god Neptune, holding a trident while his fishtailed horses rise from the water. It is fairly typical depiction of Neptune and generally nice to see if you find yourself at the Old Botanical Garden.

There are park benches at the back of the Neptunbrunnen as well as a long curved seating area at both ends of the fountain as well. These are good spots to get off your feet and take a rest while enjoying the fountain and views of the impressive architecture of the (Palace of Justice) County Court building just across the street.

Very peaceful garden full of beautiful flowers. There is a cafe at this very idilic building. Stop there for a cup of coffee
