I've been a McFit customer for over a year with no major issues with my local studio. This all changed on a recent trip to Hamburg, allow me to describe this adventure into the McFit Berliner Tor.
Arriving at around 7 AM, I was greeted not by an employee, but by a homeless person who was sleeping on the couch by the entrance. I cannot fault him, a place to sleep and take a warm shower is a luxury to many in this unjust world, good for him!
As there were no employee, or any signage, there was no-one else to ask where the locker rooms were. I walked up and down the stairs aimlessly with no success. Another patron was kind enough to guide me towards the dreaded basement, where the locker rooms are actually quite ridden.
The subtle smell of funk was the first welcome into the underworld. It is bearable, but it might be too much for the someone with a more sensitive sense of smell. The locker room itself, other then the smell, also features several broken lockers.
When it came time to work out, not only did I have to put in the effort in my exercises, but also in finding pairs of the dumbbells I needed, adding an extra mental challenge to my routine. I also added another degree of difficulty to my chest presses by avoiding the two massive wholes on the floor next to the bench, one of them displayed in this review.
The basement was quite crowded, a strong contrast to the other levels that were pretty much empty. So many sweaty and funky men, some in groups, made me wonder how safe would a woman feel in such a cramped poorly-ventilated environment.
I would like to point out though, that some reviewers here have complained about other patrons that "do not speak our language" and other such xenophobic remarks. I do not subscribe to this racist discourse and it shocks me that people feel free to say such things in the 21st century.
The lack of proper maintenance and ventilation in this location is a disrespect to patrons.
