Venetian flair! After the Great Fire of 1842, the Rathausmarkt (and its surroundings) was completely redesigned. Many of the works and buildings were designed by Alexis de Chateauneuf, including the Alsterarkaden (1843). The beautiful shopping arcade is now also part of the Alsterwanderweg. Shop or stroll in style!

Alsterarkaden is a area adjacent to Alsterfleet that features a round-arched arcade in the Italian style, supposedly modelled on similar arcades of the Venice canals. It's pretty and a nice place to eat with a nice view of the canals, the Town Hall and Rathausmarkt. Also a lovely place for pictures.

Well, if you are in the city center, you can visit this place just for chillin and having a nice coffee. The area is pretty big with nice bench were you can sit along with friends or just having a moment with yourself. You also can take a boat trip, and they will bring you through the Alster lake. I guess for 5-7 euros per person.

The only thing that bothered our large 40 plus group was the inability to converse in Deutsch or German, which was an irritant at best in the absence in any signage in English.

That apart, the number of high fashion shops and men and women intent on shopping in those establishments simply astound.

There is also a memorial erected to the people who lost their lives during World War I. This simple memorial serves as a tool to educate the youth about the generation that lost out due to war. One sees children playing and in the water, ducks and swans. Life goes on.

A great place to shop if high end shopping is your thing, time permitting.

Nice area to sit and relax. Just at stairs or in nice restaurants around. Watch swans....
