This monument stands in tribute to Adolf III, the Count of Schauenburg and Holstein in the 12th and 13th century. His is noted for having followed Frederick Barbarossa on the Third Crusade, and for establishing trading guilds on the banks of the Alster.
The monument stands on the balustrade of the Trostbrucke bridge and depicts the count wearing courtly attire of the early millennium and is made of stone. In his right hand he holds a sword with it's point resting on the ground. In contrast to the rest of the monument, the sword made of copper. The contrast actually gives the monument a more striking appearance.
