Built in the 13th century as a gate for the city, during the ages new constructions were added on. One addition was a picture of a merchant made in the 16th century.

This picture contains a legend about a Swabian man who came to Freiburg with two barrels full of gold to buy the town. He was ridiculed, especially after it turned out that the barrels only contained sand and pebbles. Before his departure, his wife had secretly replaced the gold with a worthless filling.

The tower is named after this Swabian man.

It is an eye-catching building that contains tram, car pedestrian and bike traffic. It can be quite busy and it has a bridge that leads up the mountain.

It is one of those pitstops when you are exploring the cities that you have to see.

Excellent exhibition from the local tin soldier society, with detailed dioramas of battles from the German Peasants' War, among others, as well as historical events u0026 scenes from everyday life, executed with flawless attention to detail. The sort of thing German men do with their spare time puts my fellow countrymen to shame.

Super place/town Freiburg for walking, people living here total free.
Sitting on the river and talking , read the book or just sleeping on the Sun

It is different feelings to be in Freiburg. Freiburg has its own magic to fascinate everyone!

Perhaps one of the nicest German cities I have ever seen. Its atmosphere is so kind and friendly that it always cheers up the visitor. The tower and the street are the main route of the city, here something always interesting happens. Nice, livable, quiet, very impressive place.

It's a lovely beautiful city gate from middle ages and there's a tram going right through it???

How medieval is that.

Couldn't they make it pedestrian only?
