Stayed at the De Medici for 4 nights with family and friends. I have to agree with some previous reviews, reception staff are not the friendliness, on check in or during the stay. On one of the days one of our rooms was not attended to and when mentioned to reception in the evening time was told ' well I am having a bad day also', not really the answer one would be looking for in a hotel of this standard and no apology or offer of housekeeping . Air con and heating not working in two of our rooms and no alternative given. Having worked in hospitality and mostly 4 to 5 star hotels for 20 odd years I find it disheartening to come across this.
On the plus side, the hotel is well located, breakfast staff are lovely and a special mention to Rafael, The Concierge. He went above and beyond for all of us, nothing was too much trouble, always a big hello when we met him, asked us everytime if he could help us in anyway, he went out of his way to make our stay exceptional. I can't speak highly enough of him. Polite, efficient and such a nice person. Nothing was too much trouble for him. Other staff members could follow in his footsteps. Management are lucky to have him.
The decor of the hotel is beautiful also and so much history in the building. I would recommend the hotel to stay in for location and if you are lucky enough to meet Rafael , you will have a great time.
