This baroque church stands grandiously in close proximity to the Augustus Brücke, now completely renovated.
This splendid church stands out at Schloßplatz with its numerous statues at the roof and around the building.
The inside reveals the portraits of saints, but also statues of a more modern touch.
The Church has also been recently renovated.
It's undoubtedly worth a visit, both as a tourist, for its interior and exterior beauty and, as a Catholic for the mass and the kindness of the priest Büchner.

This church is one of the brightest and most uplifting Catholic Churches in Germany. The unique design of the circular windows on the top of the main nave makes this place luminous throughout the day. The 1755 Organ is the largest work of Gottfried Silbermann, albeit finished by Zacharias Hildebrant.

Visited on 6 Jun 2022. Impressive with the cathedral and the occassional chimes of the bell

Sooo beautiful. I love this monument for it's beautiful architecture. I really love it and the position is strategic with some breathtaking views on top of it. I feel soo lucky to be here and see such a great peace of art. I visited it in winter with snow and this is the best view ever.

Katholische Hofkirche (Dresden Cathedral) is a landmark building at Schloßplatz in the city centre of Dresden and an interesting attraction to visit and see while sightseeing.

The Cathedral was originally designed and built by Italian architect Gaetano Chiaveri (1738-1751). It was badly damaged during the Bombing of Dresden in 1945 but restored during 1980s and then again in the early 21st century.

The facade is quite attractive with a single decorative tower in front and roof lined with saints, similar to what you see at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. If you enjoy architecture, the church is well worth walking around to view. It blends quite well with the Royal Palace attached by way of an elevated and enclosed footbridge.

The interior is less elaborate than Italian churches, but hints of Baroque were given by Chiaveri in its design. Have a look at the marble pillars at the main alter, which also features a lovely painting of an ascending Christ. It is worth a walk around the church to see other paintings, smaller chapels and the main nave with its hall columned walls.

Overall, we enjoyed our quick visit to Katholische Hofkirche. It is a less interesting to see compared to the more ornate Frauenkirche at Neumarkt but still worth worth a 10-15 minute visit if you enjoy seeing historical churches during your travels.
