This monument stands in tribute to Friedrich August II, King and Elector of Saxony. He is mainly noted for his initial liberal, but then authoritarian policies that resulted in the May uprising.
This monument is made up of an octagonal base with a pedestal, with the sculpture of the king atop. Friedrich August II is depicted in military regalia while standing in a regal pose in the manner of classical sculptures. Around the base of are four sculptures, depicting the female personification of the four cardinal virtues piety, wisdom, justice, and strength.
The sculpture is located very prominently on Neumarkt and is worth taking a look if in the area.
