The fact this watchtower remains is due to it being made redundant when East Germany built a development closer to the Wall and this leaving it in the middle of that. Otherwise, it would have been demolished along with the majority of the other watchtowers.

For a small fee you can climb up and see exactly what it was like to be up and look through the watchtower.

I understand it is being relocated soon to avoid damage during building works so to get to it in its original place was great.

A small but unique place to visit. It is the last remaining tower the is still standing.
While you won't see much from up top, seeing how small a space the guards were in while hearing stories from the time makes for a memorable experience.

Such a hidden gem in this busy city. The staff is very friendly and helpful that he answered all my questions which are quite a few. And there's even an emotional moment when he recalled the day of 1989 in his hometown of how east and west Germans reconnected. Highly recommended if you are interested in the history.

Nice to see if you are nearby. It is fenced off with a construction area so you cannot get too close or go inside.

Had this on my to do list. Found it just as the chap was closing up. Still didn't stop him from chatting to us for at least 30 minutes. Most informative and very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. As we were leaving another tourist approached him for more information. Very very helpful guide and was able to give us additional information on other places to visit.
Recommended visit .

There is a great, friendly guide explaining the history behind the watchtower, and other cold war-era locations around Berlin. You need to donate 2 euros to climb the tower and hold an old Kalashnikov that a DDR guard once used.
