Lovely ruins of a train station facade, now a landmark with open area/park surrounding it.

The ruins of one of the biggest railway stations in Europe. They look pompous and still can amaze ppl.

A lot of people pass by this monument without realizing this was once the main station of Berlin. It’s free of charge to visit and surrounding is also nice to walk or sit. There is a park around this, a venue, a football field and a Lidl supermarket nearby. If you’re around it definitely worth a visit.

I love this place cause, if you know what you're are seeing, your imagination can start travel in the past.
Recommendation: go to the science museum of Berlin at the railway section. In to the locomotives showroom there is a mockup of the insanely huge train hub the area was in the past.

This station was one of three stations used to deport some 55,000 Berlin Jews between 1941 and 1945, about a third of the city's entire Jewish population.
This trainstation was superior in its sheer scale, and in the opulence of its train services. During World War 2, the station was connected directly with the hotel which faced it across Askanischer Platz. All deportations went to Theresienstadt in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia, and from there to concentration camps.
Because of its importance, allied forces bombed the station during World War 2 during massive bombing raid on the night of 23 November 1943. It caused so much damage to rail infrastructure, that long-distance trains could no longer run.
