We recently stayed a few nights at the Maximilian Munich Apartments u0026 Hotel during a visit to Munich. This is a place that seems to do well for many TA reviewers. Unfortunately, we didn't have as much luck with this property and found them to be too expensive for the quality of their studio rooms and level of service delivered.
What we liked
Reservation for our Garden Studio with view of the garden was made on the Maximilian website 5 months prior to our stay. Email confirmation for reservation was sent immediately. We were expected and well received by front desk staff upon arrival and provided expected luggage storage until our room was studio was ready later in the day.
There were internet connection problems during our stay. One particular front desk staff was very responsive to us and other guests who were having problems. That was appreciated.
The location of this property is quite good. The neighbourhood is quiet and you are a 5 minute walk to the main sightseeing areas of the Old Town. The Isartor Station is a similar distance which is nice if you want to use public transportation to/from the airport or other areas of the city during your stay.
Our studio was 33 square metres, providing plenty of size and space for luggage and moving around in our room. Room decor was rather bright and furniture decent. Sofa was of decent comfort, sitting chairs and table just fine. Bed was comfortable, providing good sleep during our stay. Bathroom shower pressure was nice and housekeeping was also good.
Kitchenette while too small to make effective use for cooking, did include an espresso machine. Capsules were replenished each day. This was appreciated.
What we didn't like so much
Our room was supposed to be Garden Studio with view of the rose garden and we paid a very high price (€365 per night) for this room type. Unfortunately, the room we were given was a forth floor attic space studio. It was nowhere near the actual Garden nor were there direct views of the rose garden from within our room. Instead, from the room we could only see other building tops (see submitted photos).
As a side note, our studio did have a tiny balcony space from which you could look down into the rose garden. As such, technically speaking, there was a view down to the garden from the balcony, just not from a vantage point that was interesting nor from within the room itself. Unfortunately, it was the garden view pictures and room descriptions provided on the website that contributed to our choosing this property. This wasn't the experience we had from the 4th-floor studio at all.
Room included a small kitchenette area. Unfortunately, it was compact with very little room to prepare food for cooking. We found it ok for serving ready prepared foods (meats, cheeses, etc) but not so good for cooking. There was limited space for washing and cleaning up dishes as well.
Room includes a safe but it one of the very small varieties, large enough for passports, cash and folded documents but no chance of fitting laptops inside. The toilet in our bathroom had a weak flush, we need not go into the details on this one. To add to the list of issues encountered, as mentioned earlier, we had no internet connection for 1 of the 3 days at the property.
Lasting Impression
In the end, we didn't hate this property but were disappointed with the studio we were given. It wasn't what we expected and had too many shortcomings to warrant the high room rate we were changed.
Having stayed at another Munich property during this holiday that was a much nicer place and less than half the price, we returned home feeling that Maximilian Munich Apartments u0026 Hotel wasn't good value for money nor a property we would be interested in staying at again in the future.
