This statue stands in tribute to Friedrich Schiller, the German poet, philosopher, physician, historian, and playwright. He left a legacy that includes many novels of classic drama as well as his many symphonies that are still poplar to this day.

This statue depicts Schiller dressed as a gentleman of the 18th century. He stands in portrait pose, wearing formal dress, button up and an overcoat loose over his shoulders. His right hand is held over his heart and his left is holding a laurel crown, the symbol of victory.

The monument is located in Maximilian public square and gardens, amongst monuments to fellow German heroes.

One of the monuments to see at Maxmilianplatz in Munich is the Schiller Monument (Schillerdenkmal).

Here you find a bronze figure of Schiller cast and erected in 1863. Fully dressed with overcoat, He is peering to the right with his left hand upon his chest, standing upon a basic granite pedestal with an engraving of his name and limestone steps.

There are flowerbeds flanking the statue and green trees as a backdrop. It is a nice statue to see and to good composition for taking pictures, particularly in the summer months.
