Americans BEWARE. We are temporarily living in Mannheim from the States. Our landlord told us about Pfitzenmeier gym- the childcare there, and the many things you can do. The first time I went there I spoke with Sepina Pfitzenmier (apparently a manager at the City Airport location). Although my landlord made a deal with the gym ($15 per week, cancel any time), she gave me the run around, charging me for this and that. I decided not to join at that time. I explained the situation to my landlord who then went back to the gym and talked with her and her colleagues. They all agreed to the $15 per week and I was told that I would be granted that price/deal. I went back a second time, spoke with Sepina AGAIN- this time she spoke to me in complete German. When I told her that my German wasn't very good and that I had spoken to her before a couple months back, she said that she "remembered" (so why patronize me? Do you not like Americans? Do you not like Asians?) She didn't grant the deal that my landlord had told me about- being very curt and just out right cold. When I asked her if she talked to my landlord, she said she did. The only answer she gave me when I questioned her about the price, was a shrug of her shoulders. This manager is a poor representation of what could be a good business. My husband works for one of the largest companies in Germany- they have Americans come to Germany all the time and one of the offices is located close to another Pfitzenmeier. I will warn other Americans of this company.
Rating the gym: During the day is very quiet. I can only rate the childcare because I did not get to try any of the equipment. The childcare is quite dirty- toys seemed like they haven't been cleaned in ages but played by many children. I left my children with them for 30min while I was talking to Sepina about joining. I was told that my daughter was crying, to come down and get her. When I went down to the childcare, my daughter was crying by herself- no one was consoling her or holding her. The problem is that this childcare allows the caregiver to bring their own children- which is what I saw. The caregiver was only taking care of her own child.
Overall, I was VERY disappointed by the way they treat potential customers. Poor customer service. I would like to remind this establishment that word of mouth is stronger than any of the gigantic posters they post around town begging people to join.
