Whenever you walk into this Café-Bar, you feel that you have been taken 100 years back back in history. So it comes with no surprise when you know that this place has opened in 1832. Yes, almost 200 years ago. This is another MUST-stop-at-café for me whenever I visit Heidelberg. Schaftheutle is located on the main street (Hauptstrasse) of the old town of the city. at half distance between BismarckPlatz and Rathouseplatz.
The place is divided in many sitting areas each has its own feeling and ambience. In mild weather you can sit in the garden (to the back) and enjoy the sun and the lush green surrounding.
Their cakes and sweets (which they make in their own bakery) are just superb. Service is friendly but tend to be slow when the place is crowded. Prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this place for a break (snack, drink, coffee...) as you are touring the old town or shopping on the main street.

The cake is good. Coffee too was good. Many options for cake. I liked the garden and the terrace the most. We visited twice during our visit to Heidelberg

A truly historic place which has kept up it's fame over a long time. Now a really upscale spot to take a break from the hustle of Hauptstraße. In the back a lovely garden and indoor patio with the choice to be in or out.
The cakes and pastries are outstanding, the selection overwhelming! Kuchen and tortes, the finest chocolates! Feast your eyes on everything upon entering, then make your choice. You will be served at the table where you choose to sit.
Friendly staff. Our waiter was a young student, very pleasant.

I liked this cafe, it is located at the shopping strip. They have lots of choices of cake, and the cafe is large and luxurious, I found the prices okay and not too expensive for what you get. We took breakfast here and it was lovely. The waiter was friendly and helpful. The toilet was chique, but had a small designer flaw in the sink, it sprayed water not only down but also sprayed it on to you. No big problem. I’d recommend this for lunch or breakfast.

Nice place to chill. There is also seating with garden view inside. ++ for air conditioning. Cake u0026 lemonade was really good. Staff was friendly.

My sister and I were tourists in Germany and so were a little intimidated to order stuff in a cafe. Luckily, the staff helped us out and even offered to speak in English which was very generous of them. :) The coffee and breakfast was gorgeous. Very generous portions!
