This hotel has aged well. I often get carried away with the new finish of modern hotels, but this hotel has a beautiful charm and character to it which new hotels do not have. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the room was a decent size which allowed us to have a sofa bed for the kids, and two large suitcases open, whilst still moving around the room with ease. The room had a book shelf full of books, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in a hotel with that. There was a common room with a pool table and chairs which we didn’t get time for. The hallways held information and pictures about the hotel’s history. The lobby/reception was beautiful with a bar and a lounge. We sat down in the evening to play a game of chess of a good quality board in comfy sofas. Staff were helpful and gave us free metro tickets. Breakfast seemed a little pricy given how cheap Hamburg’s restaurants and cafés are - therefore we didn’t order it.

This i a personal yet classy hotel. Not as others. Even with small suprices such as the small roof top terrace with a bar and a really nice view of Hamburg. Also a really convenient central location, especially if you arrive by train. The room aren’t that big in comparison to what you pay for.
What made me disappointed about the hotel that the hotel has made, beside the accurate cost, two withdrawals that togheter was more than the accurate cost, about 350 euro. One of them made in the middle of the night. Guess it is some kind of deposit, but at the reception they could neither understand or explain what this withdrawl might be or, why it were made twice or when we would get the money back. Three days after check out I haven’t still got these money back.

Sheer Excellence!

Shalom, this remains my favorite hotel in Hamburg ever since the first week-long stay back in 2004, with my hubby, recommended by my beloved, now deceased father, followed by a huge family celebration, and I joyously keep referring family, friends and neighbors to this fantastic, lovely hotel, which now has a dependance at the traditional "Mellingburger Schleuse" up at the Alsterwanderweg, housing Hamburg's oldest restaurant, also run with the same consistent, outstanding courtesy, real, genuine and heartfelt hospitality! The kind, polite, professional and warm-hearted staff go consistently out of their way to make one feel truly welcome ( I consider it a home away from home by now:) Excellent eateries with the fabulous Kleinhuis restaurant, the bistro, the funky bar area that also has design-wise just the perfect mix between modern and traditional. The family history of this 4th generation only family-run business in black and white on the hallway walls is fascinating and coming from the hospitality business, I do so appreciate consistency, which is key. All staff deliver this in a genuinely happy, helpful way, as do the lovely owner and manager. This hotel has the highest ethical standards, is definitely not a run-of-the-mill place, but utterly unforgettable and unique in its superb quality that goes across the board from the room design to the tiniest detail of food and beverages presented. I spoke to many of the staff over the years, and without fail, everyone had excellent manners, loves working at Baseler Hof Kleinhuis Hotels, the management couldn't choose the best staff better if they tried. If ever there was a tiny glitch, excellent service recovery made up for it right away, and the hanseatic style of excellent manners prevails. Huge thanks and much respect--always a total joy to return, am sentimentally fond of this hotel that touches one's heartstrings in ways huge chains don't quite manage--and this before and during the pandemic. Hats off, dear Kleinhuis Hotel! Thanks for a job truly well done, keep up the great job! If anyone wants a special experience in Hamburg at the most beautiful locations with great proximity by public transport, seek no further, wary traveller, cannot recommend highly enough!

Great location, with really nice and helpful staff. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back next time we are in Hamburg.

Hotel is fine and our room was nice. A bit smaller than i expected, since i booked a superior room and how they looked online when I booked it.
Dinner tasted fine but the light in the room made all the food on the plate look the same colour, and that was an unpleasant experience.

A well located hotel - convenient in terms of transport and in a nice area. The room was well presented with coffee making facilities, a minibar and little fridge. The temperature control could be a little less complicated with heating and air conditioning being entwined together, which made it difficult to get the room cooler.
What was the best feature of this hotel was the reception and the staff, who were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We were also given free public transport tickets courtesy of the hotel, which was a very nice surprise and extremely useful to our short holiday. Would definitely stay here again if we visit again.

Great family owned hotel, centrally located. But if no aircon! So if aircon is your 'must', find something else. .I was just here the second time, and Baseler remains my Hamburg favorite.
