Very good location and fair price. Spacious room with big bathroom, good breakfast, but bed and pillows... Let's say opposite from what I would choose myself. :) So sleep was not that relaxing. Other from that - all was good.

a bit old furniture, everything looks shabby, but service and location is very good, i'd stay there probably again due to very good price vs value ratio,
breakfasts are on the edge not name them scarce, I 'd say good enough if you stay a couple of days

Overall I wish I had splurged a little more and gotten a better hotel. It isn't the worst ever but I feel lacking for what you pay.

Pros:
* Location is pretty good and central
* Staff is mostly nice and speaks english
* I guess they have breakfast but I don't eat hotel breakfasts when I'm in a city as rich with food culture as Hamburg; I prefer to go out elsewhere to eat, get it from a bakery, etc. so this is more of a con for me personally.

Cons:
* Small/old rooms
* Beds small and mediocre
* Wifi goes out randomly or is just not that strong
* No cards to your room so you have to keep up with a key... I was pretty paranoid about losing it

Overall I just feel like the experience is not that great for ~$100 USD per night. I guess this is possibly decent value for Hamburg and I am being picky, but I'd try to stay somewhere else next time. In particular the internet going out randomly wasn't so nice.

Hotel Alster-Hof in Hamburg, - better than expected.
A nice clean hotel, good sized rooms and a breakfast buffet above average.
The situation of the hotel is near interesting sites in the city.

Advertised as a 3 stars superior hotel, it's rather a 2 star, 2 and 1/2 at maximum. The room has enough space but mine had an awful smell, like a dump cellar. I had to keep the terrace window open (thanks God it's summer time) but the smell didn't go totally away. The room was clean enough at least. What really puzzled me was that I had to choose the day before what I wanted for breakfast, by marking some multiple choice list on a piece of paper with no more than 15 items between food and beverage. Then you just get what you chose as it totally lacks any sort of buffet. Really an odd and not satisfying choice, I was not satisfied at all.

Lovely 3 star hotel. Clean rooms ( we had one that hasn't been renovated yet, but still was very nice), plentiful, delicious breakfast buffet and friendly personal. It is located 10min by foot from the main station and you can reach the city center and many attractions by foot. Ask for a room to the back, if possible. We will come back to Hamburg and stay here again!
