Set in the stunning surroundings of the Black Forest foothills and just a few minutes outside of Freiburg's city centre, this charming Bed u0026 Breakfast is the perfect overnight stay for people who prefer character over luxury. We loved all the little details, the tiled oven in the breakfast room, the quirky and traditional decoration, the gentle murmur of the small stream just behind the house. We will definitively be back again! :)

This place is not trustworthy!

So the lady who ran this place was verbally abusive and cancelled our booking so that we would not write a review on booking.com. This makes it very clear that this place is not trustworthy as they will cancel your booking if they think that you will give them a bad review. I think this is the only place I've ever stayed at that I have ever given a negative review, however the best word to describe this place is: awful.

We did not feel welcome here.

I booked Pension Waldheim with the expectation that it was a highly reviewed place.

We came late, about 21:30 and we informed Pension Waldheim via booking.com of this before arrival. I told the lady, that we are very tired and that we would like to sleep in, and therefore we will be checking out at 11:00 as it says in the description.

We had left Tubingen around 15:30 that day and we visited some famous castles in the region during the evening and we had not had the time to eat, however, we brought some food which you only need some boiled water for, to eat before we went to bed.

When we arrive in the evening we were tired and hungry. I have a shower and because there is no water cooker in the room I go downstairs to look for a water heater. I open the door to the kitchen and the lady is sitting there and I ask her if there is a water boiler here in the kitchen that I could use just for a late snack.

She asks me very rudely why I'm not in bed because I had told her that I was very tired. She says it's very late, that an entire hour has gone by, and really shames me for not having gone to bed already, as I was "supposed" to.

I respond by saying I had a shower and before we sleep we would just like to heat some water so we don't go to bed hungry.

The lady tells me that I should have read in the booking.com description that no water heater in the room and that I can't under any circumstances boil some water, she continues by saying that this is not a hostel. It gets more problematic because she continues, verbally abusing me.

I apologize because I am completely shocked. I went to bed hungry and I did not feel welcome here. Honestly, I felt very shamed and put down although I can't come past how just wanting to boil some water at 23:00 warranted that reaction, because it did not.

I understand that I am 25 and I might look as if I belong in a hostel to this lady. However, I am a paying guest and under no circumstances was the verbal abuse I received acceptable. This whole situation blew my mind. In the morning the lady had cancelled my booking. This confirms to me that she also knew that her behaviour was not okay and that she was afraid that we would give her a bad review on booking.com.

This is the reason I decided to take the time and write because this whole situation was not okay. As a guest, I have never been this badly treated, ever, by anyone. The fact that she removed our booking shows that the score this place has is not trustworthy as we have no idea if this has ever happened before. Cancelling potential bad reviews makes me question review systems which I generally use to make bookings.

I want people to know this place is not honest and this lady is not a good person.

Apart from that, the place did not live up to the standard I expected. We did not feel welcome here at all.

The wifi is sketchy.
The showers aren't very good.
The room was drafty and cold, the radiator did not work and there were not enough blankets.
On top of that, we both went to bed hungry.

Wonderful hotel, rooms are good size and hotel is very well kept.
Restaurant downstairs does good food and very good prices and the beer is great.
Tram stop is directly outside and comes every 10 minutes or so, around 5-10 minutes in to town and a 24 hour ticket for under 6.50 euro makes it dirt cheap to get around.
Didn't try the breakfast but am sure it's great based on the food we had in the evening.
Will certainly be coming again and will be recommending to friends and anyone who wants to stay in or around Freiburg!

we have stayed here three times, and have always found it good value. the hotel is a little rustic,as you would expect from a old building on the edge of the black forest. the rooms are clean, the shower's good, also the beds are clean and comfortable. we were here in September, and had a nice welcome from barbara and holiger. turn right and walk to the cable car to schauinsland,or the forest is opposite the hotel. it's about 4 miles walk to Freiburg or the strassebahn is across the road.we also had a couple of nice meals in the restaurant in the evening. holiger was very helpful with local information. perfect location ! would visit again.

Great stay at Freiburg. Easily accessible by Tram no 2. The tram stop is just opposite. You are at the starting point of Black Forest. Great decor. Very cozy. Excellent hospitality and breakfast. They do not accept cards so only cash
