*The sad kitten illustrates how I felt after going to Maincafé today*
Up until 2 hours ago, I liked the place (and especially its wine cake!), since it has a nice location and relaxed atmosphere. And then the mean blond lady who works there broke my heart. Here’s my sad story:
Last time I went to Maincafé, I had wine cake which I really liked. I told my husband about it and we’ve been wanting to grab a piece together ever since. We live in a different city, so going to Frankfurt just for a cake seemed unreasonable; but after several months of continuous reminders from my side that “hey, this cake was delicious, we should go get some!”, we finally just decided to drive to Frankfurt and try our luck.
After a long drive, nerve-wrecking search of a parking spot (downtown Frankfurt on a Saturday – need I say more?), a long walk and queuing, it’s finally our time to order! I ask the blond lady at the counter if they have wine cake. She tells me they do, but it’s in the kitchen and she’s alone at the counter and can’t go to bring it outside. I told her we came extra from a different city for this cake, that I was a fan and would really, really appreciate getting some, but she just repeated she had to stay at the front.
All right, I think to myself, I’ll go inside and ask someone else from the staff if they could please bring it out for her. I do that and the girl working inside takes out the cake and is just about to cut 2 pieces for us, when the mean blond lady intervenes, telling me it was “audacious” of me to not accept her “NO” and that if she tells me I’m not getting any cake, then I’m not. I was speechless – this made absolutely no sense to me. If you don’t want to sell the cake, why do you tell me you have it? If you say you just need someone to bring it out, then why do you prevent them from doing so? Most importantly – how can you be so rude to a customer who just really nicely told you they loved your product and drove from a different city to buy it?
Honestly, I have no idea what got to this woman and why on earth someone with such attitude and manners is allowed to work in service.
So we left – hungry, sad and endlessly disappointed. The mean blond lady destroyed Maincafé and the cake for us forever. Not going back and not recommending it to anyone who likes to be treated with any degree of decency.
