The original Unity Memorial was bilt in 1903, after a 5 year Contest. It had a Bronze figure on the top and also of the 3 sides of the base and represented Freedom and will to Learn, they were taken out at the start os the 2nd war, being melted for the war effort! The panel relifs of today represent the strugglle of the German States to became one, with the departure from the Family to fight in other state. The Statue on the top apparently represents "Germania". The Motto was "This Battle we can not lose!"...
