An unexpected gem of our travels across Europe with mum and baby this summer. While parking is limited, everything else is exemplary - especially for the cost. The value for money is unbeatable, and the quality of the hotel is top. The evening staff spoke excellent English and were incredibly helpful. While not on our usual route, we will consider diverting for this excellent modern alternative. Breakfast was also of high quality with a decent range of hot and cold food.

hotel is OK for a short stay, probably best for car enthusiasts who don't care about the immediate surrounding of the hotel. Careless drivers don't even slow down when they see pedestrians as they don't expect any as if they were on the nearby Autobahn already.

The reception staff is friendly in general but don't seem very attentive.
The second access card did not work and we asked staff three times to fix it. Each time they told us that the card should work now, but it didn't. Each time they gave us the feeling that we were doing something wrong instead of just providing a new card or checking if the updated card really worked instead of just stating that it "should work now"

Another important thing: please make sure to treat guests equally. When I returned from a walk at night I walked in casually and after a few seconds the person at the reception desk ran up to me in order to block my way and asked if I was staying at the hotel. I have not seen this kind of behaviour when I watched other (white) people enter the hotel at night while staying at niu Cobbles

I do find security checks acceptable but when it looks obvious that I am the only person approached by staff members while others were greeted in a friendly manner I won't return.

A bus and a U-Bahn stop are nearby which is a plus.

If you pre-register you may bring your dog.

The room did not have a fridge, the interior design looks relatively modern but with the high level of specific elements in the room it looks more outdated than a more generic interior.

Next to the reception there's a self serve filtered water station where guests can refill their bottles or have a glass of carbonated water for free.

Instead of having breakfast we ordered individual coffees in the morning. On the first day we were directed to use the one button self serve machine and were charged €3, the young reception desk staff member I have ordered coffees on day 2 charged €3.5, when I have asked why he explained that he is about to prepare the coffees on their proper machine and that explains the difference. Unfortunately he burnt the milk and did not use enough coffee. The self serve machine clearly won the competition. There won't be a next time for me but if you are in my situation insist to use the machine or just skip having coffee and wait to grab a better tasting one in one of Essen's 3rd wave coffee places.

Tried to contact Niu Essen multiple times through phone and email about my reservation, but they can't be reached. You will only get a standard voicemail.

Nicely located, just a short walk to the city centre. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms clean and well equipped. Great variety for breakfast and a nice bar and seating area.

The only thing lacking was an actual chair in the room instead of a beanbag? Also could use a shelf in the shower? Great time at the bar!

I was in Essen on a business trip, luckily just for one night. The hotel is furnished with a mix of colors and accessories that create only confusion. A bad smell at the entrance and in the room ( which was really small).at the reception they gave me a key for a room alr day occupied! For dinner only a very bad pizza, breakfast was ok. For the price of almost 95€ I expected much more
