I am no expert, but I had the feeling that the acoustic isn't the best. I was sitting on the upper left side. A real shame if you don't want to miss all the details. Maybe next time try central sitting, even if it would be more expensive. Excellent Cabernet Sauvignon Luna (white wine) at the entrance bar.

is a concert venue. The original building was completed in 1902, and destroyed during World War II on 26 July 1943. was rebuilt between 1949 and 1954 and completely renovated in 2003 and 2004.

The first concert venue at the same place, the so-called Stadtgartensaal, was opened in 1864. A new concert venue was built in 1901 at the same place – the first Saalbau. At the opening on 24 September 1904 conducted Richard Strauss.

After World War II, between 1949 and 1954, a modernized version was rebuilt. The most significant attribute of the building was the copper roof of the building.

Beethoven 2 / Glagolitic Mass / Netopil. A pleasant hall but the acoustic is boomy and wooly towards the bass, not so helpful for Classical works. Annoyingly the door stewards sat in chairs which they placed in our already limited field of view, meaning that in effect they got better seats than we had paid for! But we enjoyed our visit, the Philharmonie complex is in a pleasant part of town with good transport links. Limited options for food before the concert but great pretzels at the hall!

Beautifully designed concert hall. Excellent acoustics. The Beethoven and Janacek concert I attended was fantastic!

Great acoustics. Seats are ok even for longer concerts, enough legroom.
Storing jackets is for free.

Fantastic concert hall with superb acoustics and a forward looking architectural design that renders homage to the spirit of the Ruhrgebiet.
