Excellent. Good, fast and friendly service. Nice rooms, surprisingly quiet place. Rural surrounding in the mid of Ruhrgebiet. Very tasty and good food, wellness area well kept, very clean and pool big enough space to swim. Highly recommended if you want to switch off from daily challenges - great hide away place with excellent connectivity to cultural highlights and city life.

Avoid this hotel if it’s possible!!!!
We were attending on a wedding, which took place in this hotel, therefore we booked a room in it too. The ceremony started at 3pm, therefore we arrived just after noon. But as the check in is officially from 3pm, we had to pay extra 30 EUR, as for early check in! They knew we are one of the guests for the wedding and they didn’t help us having an early check in for free of charge.
Then next day, when we check out, they added 28 EUR for breakfastu0026Wlan! Who pays in 2020 extra money for WiFi??????? And we haven’t even had breakfast, as we woke up at 10am after the party, and breakfast finishes by 10am, so we paid for nothing!
And the lady at the reception is super rude! She hung the phone on us when we called before our arrival and she did exactly the same thing with some others on the phone while we were checking in!
And the room design is terrible! The pictures which are on booking.com and on their website, just simply had nothing to do with reality! And when we asked for a different room, they claims that they are fully booked!

What's not to like! Courteous and capable staff. Great breakfast with your choice of eggs to order or making the juice of your choice from the available provided ingredients, loads of tasty fresh fruit. Or even the way that the cleaning lady took special and loving care of placing my 3 kids stuffed animals under their blankets to wait for the kids to return (too cute!). Oh, and not to mention the lovely pool with lounge chairs and a massage bed or the cards and chess boards available for general use and great nonstop internet connectivity (best that I've ever seen!). Excellent hotel with excellent food and top, top care! Definitely adding them to my short list of hotels to stay in wherever, whenever! Simply a great experience! Yes, yes, YES PLEASE!

Great place and location. Only down side is that reception doesn't recognise that I'm English(Name and Surname) and keep speaking German to me and then puts her hands in the air when I don't understand so leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth upon leaving. Also would be nice if literature in room were in both German and English. Seems the hotel is more for German tourists than the occasional English customer.

Essen is not the most beautiful of places, but for a stop-over this place is perfect. Very child-friendly en relatively cheap.

If you would like a very positive hotel experience, in very pleasant surroundings and don't mind the somewhat small rooms, then this is the place for you.

It is also very consistent. I have been using the Mintrops for about 10 years; the hotel is always right up to date but the original and engaging ambiance which welcomed me on my first stay remains unchanged.
