I would say that it is really good balance between price and quality! The room was with basic equipment but it was clean and in good condition. The breakfast was nice with all necessary food which you would expect for a morning time. I would not say that this hotel is suitable for a family with little children but I had a nice stay with my wife and 2 years old daughter. I recommend it for a budget stay.
Only issue is a small bathroom however it is not critical one

Bad hotel, they smoke a lot inside the rooms that makes impossible to breath and they don't care beside it is forbiden to smoke in rooms. Very bad smell inside the room and worse clean. I never comimg back and it is NOT RECOMENDED!

The hotel is a bit dated, the walls and doors are not thick so can hear the old lift and other people, a few minor issues with some of the things in the room, however all we needed was somewhere to stay. It was much cheaper than a lot of the other hotels and you get what you pay for. I have certainly stayed in worse. If you want just a room to sleep in, because you are out and about enjoying the Christmas markets then this is fine. Unless you had really loud neighbours in which case you would hear them.

While the area is quite nice the hotel did not really meet my expectations (at least the ones created by the pictures I saw before my arrival). The room was clean but very small, the WiFi did not work at all and the breakfast was just OK. On the flip side it had nice views to the park place in front of the hotel.

It's not a comfortable place. There is no air conditioning system, the rooms have a sort of bad smell too. There is no even tissue in the room considering covid-19 situation. Also there is no plate, glass, ... In the room. I strongly recommend no to go there!

Friendly staff, spoke great English which was very appreciated. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The room was small, as was the lift; anyone travelling with large suitcases might struggle for space a bit. Overall positive experience though.

Novum Maxim is a budget hotel located south from downtown, about 20 minutes walk from the shopping street, the old town and the river, and 10 minutes walk from the central railway station. Bus no. 721 provides easy and cheap access to the airport (30 minutes, 3 Euros).

The area is pretty quiet, there is a conveniently located bar next door and a REWE discount store on the next corner, open until midnight. There is a huge playground right in front of the hotel, and the puppet theater is in the neighbouring street.

Rooms are small and simple. Twin rooms, especially on the 4th floor, may be uncomfortably small for 2 adults. Bathrooms, beds, and everything else were spotlessly clean. The shower was working well. Beds were comfortable. There is no fridge in the rooms.

Breakfast is simple but fresh, a buffet with 2-3 kinds of cheese and 3-4 kinds of cold cuts, cucumber, tomatoes, hardboiled eggs, jams and different kinds of corn flakes. It may not be as fabulous as what you get in other German hotels, but it fits the minimalistic budget hotel positionong and everything is fresh and well stocked even after 9 a.m.

We had a problem with our first room, which was right next to the elevator, and the constant creaking and banging of the elevator door disturbed our sleep. (It's a weird setup: there is the elevator shaft, then 2 rooms right next to it on each flooor, then the staircase and finally the rest of the "normal" rooms. Also, the noise is not made by the elevator itself, but the banging of the elevator door, which could easily be fixed with some VD40 and a better closing mechanism I guess.)

But: when we raised the problem to the staff, the blonde lady at the reception was very helpful and efficient in providing us another room, even making it possible to move there before 11 am. The good impression of the staff continued when the afternoon receptionist, a friendly young man quickly fixed an issue with our bathroom.

Overall, this is a great little hotel, minimalistic but efficient, a very good price/value ratio and attentive staff. Just try to get a room that's not next to the elevator shaft.
