TLDR: Small but good routes, patient staff and friendly crowd.
Visited on a Monday at 1115 hrs. So the crowd was minimal.
The venue was small compared to the other climbing gyms I visited in Germany. But they cap visitors at 45 and there’s a time limit (1.5 hr for 8 euro and 3 hr for 9.5 euro) so it shouldnt be too crowded even during the peak hours. (Btw there’s an online booking system that allows you to see how many free slots there are for each time slot) Anyway, the climbers present during my visit were nice and helpful. They showed me some of the moves for routes I had problem with. I could hear strangers cheering for one another when someone pulled off something he/she was struggling with. So the crowd is friendly.
The routes are good and varied. They cater to all types of climbers (pure power climbers with steep overhangs requiring heel hooks or elegant climbers who balance well on the smallest foot holds without hands etc). Though the size of the gym meant that there were less routes for each difficulty level. There’s many “wildcard” routes whereby the difficulty is unknown but of their level 2 (green) onwards so it might be hard for the new beginners trying to find routes that they can work towards. But this might be something that the local community likes and I respect that.
The staff are friendly and helpful. Was patient with my wife and I as we were first-time visitors to this gym. I wanted to pick up a t-shirt as a souvenir and the staff was again patient as she let me felt the material then try on different sizes before deciding on the color.
Oh yeah. They were really prompt and replied quickly when I emailed them about requirements regarding COVID-19 and busy time periods. So, fantastic staff really.
Btw, it’s near a neighbourhood with pretty good food too. That should entice you to go down and climb.
