I booked a single room and it turned out to look just like displayed in the photos. I was lucky to have gotten a room on the top floor because I had access to a shared but private balcony that was perfect for sunrises and sunsets. It also wasn’t hot as I had expected on the top floor.
The room is small but didn’t feel cramped because the layout and decorations created a cozy environment. The room included two towels, slippers, a small TV and desk, sink, full length mirror, and a hairdryer. I had a shared bathroom (used the ones on the third and second floor because they were bigger).
I met three different receptionists, all of whom were very nice. You can leave your keys with the front desk when you go out and can drop off your luggage in the side room on the first floor before/after you check out.
The hotel is in a very convenient location; 5 minute walk to the central station (don’t use the route that Google Maps gives but turn left when exiting the station then cross the road when you see a Vietnamese restaurant), less than 10 minutes from the famous cathedral, and 20 minutes from the old town riverside. Its location near the central station means that there’s also easy access to local public transit.
The street is dark at night but safe as there are both locals and other hotels’ customers.
Walls and doors (automatically lock) are also soundproof so I didn’t even know that my floor was more than half full until I saw the cleaning person cleaning out the rooms. If you leave your windows open or sit on the balcony, you can faintly hear announcements from the train station but it shouldn’t disturb your sleep.
I didn’t try the breakfast buffet but other reviews said it was good and I saw quite a lot of people eating breakfast in the morning (more people than I thought we’re staying the night).
Their cleaning protocol is thorough too. I saw the person in charge of cleaning vacuuming hard to reach places, changing sheets. and airing out rooms. Note that there are no elevators. And the hotel is quite secure because you need to buzz in to enter and no one really enters unless they’re staying there. There’s a small coffee and tea stand in the lobby and you can use the outdoor patio on the first floor whenever.
I would definitely consider staying here again if I ever revisit Cologne. It made for a relaxing, clean, comfortable, and quiet night’s sleep and is in a prime location. The price was also decent compared to nearby places’.
