One of the real Bavarian restaurant in Berlin. Authentic Haxe, knodel, red cabbage and beer. Book ahead.

Best German food I know. We are always loud but they accept us like we are. Michi always looks after us. Really great place.

The food was very good. The serving lady asked for tip herself and also determined its amount. She only returned the € 60 banknotes (€ 33 spent) and expected to leave the "small" € 7 as a tip. I have never experienced such behavior anywhere.

We visit the Haxnwirt at least twice a year with a big group of people to have some comfort food. Of course, don't expect a vegetarian menu when you go there :-) The Haxn (roasted pork leg) and meat dishes taste just like they should, portions are big. When you pre-order a Haxn, size M is plenty enough. If you still have room for dessert, share a Kaiserschmarrn or apple rings!
The atmosphere is cozy and the "not so Bavarian" staff very friendly.

For some reason, it was really hard to find a great restaurant with traditional German food. We asked a German in Berlin where we could find a good restaurant with German food and she said, "Bayern." She was WRONG! This place is AMAZING. The knoedel where huge and delicious. The rotkohl, roladen, everything was ausgezeichnet. My husband and I were only in Berlin for a short amount of time, but we ate there every night after finding it. Try the Haxe for sure! I'm from the States and it isn't quite what I would normally eat, but it is delicious.
