Interactive * Beautiful * Fun
This is a wonderful museum for all ages, where you can learn about the history of the different instruments at the same time as you can listen to their sounds. There are many opportunities to interact, making this Journey even more memorable.

A truly interesting collection of musical instruments. A few captivating hands-on demos. Audio guides available. Large collection of string and keyboard instruments. Definitely recommended if you are into musical instruments and their history. Reckon with at least two hours.

One of the serendipity highlight in Berlin trip. The staff is very helpful showing my how the audio guide work. Definitely need the audio guide to appreciate the instrument. Highly recommend a visit. It's part of the Berlin museum pass.

Excellent presentation of European musical instruments through the recent centuries. If you can participate in the demonstration/guided tour, you will have a magnificent experience.
Musical traditions of other than Euro-American cultures not really present.

Quite scary/tense experience with the feeling of Counterpart or Severance: authoritarian cold war/gulag atmosphere completed with angry bureaucratic guards (who outnumbers the "guests") keeping an eye on you. You right away sense that are not allowed to enjoy anything here: you should speak very quietly, you are not allowed to touch or try the instruments except literally 5 objects you are allowed to touch (none of them is something you can't touch in a music store), which actually amplifies the feeling of being oppressed because the authority actually allowed you to have a small joy ????

The moment closing is announced all guards look at you and also warn you with an angry tone to move towards the door. Kind of "you heard the orders, why do you still act like you have more time", which is also typical as the rule should be multilayered: the fact that they close at 17:00 doesn't mean that they close at 17:00, you should be scared and run the moment you hear the announcement (orders).

All in all, a must try if you want to experience how it feels/felt to live under oppressive regimes... If you want to learn about musical instruments, try, show to your child, have fun then maybe you should skip this museum.

If you're a friend of keyboard instruments, you are in for a treat, however it's frustratingly unclear what instruments you can (or should!) touch and what to stay away from. Staff is a bit awkward, the museum app is a nightmare to use. The whole place feels like it could be so much better with some upgrades

Collection is nice and presented ok, but there's no information on any of the pieces. I think there's an audio guide but it was never mentioned to us.

If leaving your bag in a locker is required guests should be told/directed to them when purchasing tickets, not yelled at from accross the room after entering.

Also 15 minutes before close a message plays to let you know, but immediately after that we were gruffly approached by a staff member to hurry us out as if we didn't hear the message and weren't on the way to retrieve our bag.

It's also totally silent inside and a weird feeling environment while being stared at.

Luckily there was a really friendly guy working upstairs with the interactive items who managed to bring this place to 3 stars. But also know some interactive things will be turned off or not working.

I wouldn't reccomend this place as you could just as easily turn on some music and learn about these things at home, without all the awkward interactions.
