Unplanned visit - well worth it.

We went here as it was right next to Berlin on Bicycles and we had just finished a tour. Noticed the museum and after the rich history lesson we recieved on the bicycle tour thought, 'why not'. It was well worth it. Very interesting all about life in East Germany. It was quite interactive and so filled with intersting recent history. Well curated and maintained. Also free - which was great. Well done!

Fascinating insight into the daily lives of citizens living under the Communist regime of East Germany. Grocery shopping, life in a Commie block high rise, how they went on vacation…these are the mundane pieces of history we don’t often see in the books. Plenty of exhibits with descriptions in German and English. I arrived an hour before close and the staff were professional and helpful. Free entry so stop by if you get the chance.

Awesome experience for this free exhibition: "Zwischenzeit 1990". I'm a photographer and it gave me the chills to see Berlin in 1990. The museum is wonderful, kind staff as well ❤️

Great non-ideological display of everyday DDR life. Family, job, education, shopping, economic planing, government. Lots of exhibits, great for teens to explore.

It’s free. With the amount of things to see and the quality and cleanliness… it’s amazing.
Just don’t forget to bring a 1€ or 2€ coin for the lockers to put your things away. Don’t worry… you’ll get it back.

Interesting free museum on life in the DDR. They advertise their exhibition as contrasting propaganda versus reality, but I did not find that particularly clear in the examples they showed, so I was a bit disappointed. They have a free website which provides an audioguide to enrich the tour in a variety of languages, so that's a plus!
