This monument stands in tribute to Helmuth Karl Bernhard Graf von Moltke, or more often simply Moltke the Elder. Moltke was a fine military strategist who is considered to have masterminded Prussian victories over Austria and France in the latter part of the 19th century.

This monument is a marble sculpture of Moltke wearing a field marshal uniform with the German Iron Cross around his neck. He is depicted with his hands held together at the front, but oddly leaning back on a balustrade.

The statue is realistic if a bit bland and a bit disappointing considering his contributions, not to mention it's prominent location. Only worth taking a look if visiting Tiergarten or the area around Grosser Stern,

Interesting monument of famous field marshal of Prussian army. He had also nephew who was commander in WW1.

Hero of the Prussian then German people. Devised ways for increasingly large armies to be organised, to move, to be fed and to fight. Many of the modern military structures can be traced back to Moltke. Not to be confused with his nephew who was active in WWI. Beautiful statue but the grounds around it need to be tidied.

A beautiful statue near the Victory Tower ("Siegesäule"). Moltke was one of the Prussian Generals responsible for the military ascent of Prussia. Worth seeing if you go to the Victory Tower.

Look like Merkel as a man. If the hands were together in that Merkel way it would be Merkel Man ;-)

A nice monument and park next to the tiergarten.
