KaDeWe level 6 was once the oasis is the desert that was 1980 Berlin. Now, it's a series of cafes and outposts of better stores. Its still worth a visit. Frankly, the food here was 3*, or even 2* (have the matjes and bratkkartoffeln). But the woman serving us was inspirational. In the days when I owned a bunch (or is the term a clustefuk?) of Restaurants, I would have imprisoned this wonder of service, and used her to lure other wunder-waiters she knew.

I'm so glad we found this place. With our tight schedule on our Berlin visit I was having trouble finding a place offering Kartoffelpuffer and this place has them and a number of other great potato fish options. Try the spiral potatoes with salmon tatare.

As with the other food places on Kadewe's 6th floor the food is cooked to order in front of you. Be ready to wait a little if it's busy. Great staff, too, they banter the German way and gave good humor.

The food was delicious and reasonably priced however the main chef confused our order and blamed us for it and told us to sort it out. Extremely bad customer service, our good food experience turned sour almost immediately and that is why I'm giving it a 1 star rating.

A female cook literally yelled at my wife as she was trying to ask her a question (there was no English menu available).
Avoid! Many decent places around besides this one.

Even now after Corona, we couldn't wait to see our nice chefs again and enjoy the delicious food. It was wonderful, even if you can't sit at the counter again at the moment. In order to get enough space, I recommend being there at 12 p.m. sharp, otherwise you could be unlucky. Even if it takes a little longer (especially with the baked dishes), it's worth it, it tastes delicious. We remain loyal to the potato field and are already looking forward to the next time.

Addendum: Went back in July 2020, still our lovely chefs always up for a joke. You can now sit at the counter again. Fried potatoes and scrambled eggs very delicious!!

Seitdem der Kartoffelacker nach dem Umbau in der 6. Etage eröffnet hat, sind wir dort praktisch Stammgäste. Auch jetzt nach Corona, wir konnten es nicht erwarten, wieder unsere netten Köche zu sehen und das leckere Essen zu geniessen. Es war herrlich, auch wenn man momentan noch nicht wieder am Tresen sitzen kann. Damit man noch gut Platz bekommt, empfehle ich, Punkt 12 Uhr dort zu sein, sonst könnte man Pech haben. Auch wenn es mal etwas länger dauert (besonders bei den überbackenen Gerichten), es lohnt sich, schmeckt lecker. Wir bleiben dem Kartoffelacker treu und freuen uns schon aufs nächste Mal.

Nachtrag: Wieder dagewesen im Juli 2020, immer noch unsere netten Köche, die immer zu einem Spaß aufgelegt sind. Mittlerweile kann man auch wieder am Tresen sitzen. Bratkartoffel u. Rührei sehr sehr lecker!!
