The owner must be the most miserable person I have ever come across...the rudeness was was not only astonishing towards a paying guest but also to a family member who made the booking for me. The price quoted was not honored upon payment...it had to be in cash and in advance and upon paying, unknown taxes were added. I wonder if this was legal for a cash transaction...will look further into it, and if so, will report to the better business buro. The shower had no place to put the coin sized soap that was supplied and had to be either held while in the shower or let it float on the wet floor. There is no service what so ever except for the 8-10 breakfast slot which recycles the previous day's items. I was yelled by the manager like a five year old for holding the door open to another guest family with two little kids...what am I supposed to do...slam the door at their face and let them deal with getting in while I'm right there? This woman / owner is a true monster of a person. I will never recommend this place to anyone. It ruined an otherwise great visit to Berlin...keep reading the reviews here...obviously, I'm not the only one who is amazed by the rudeness if this woman. Never again.

I called the place to clarify a missing answer to my booking request. I got an incredible harangue about my apparent inability to understand their simple instructions. When I tried to answer I got the advice to keep my mouth shut while other people are talking.
Only afterwards did I go to the trouble to read the hotel's reviews. I join the multitude of guests who complain about the really incredible rudeness of whoever answers the telephone there.
Of course, I am not going to give my business to a place where this is the tone of voice.

A very lovely place. I lived here for quite a long time and had no problems with my hosts. The house is old and vintage. Subway is nearby, as well as shops and restaurants. It is easier if you speak German because not everyone speaks English here. There is no kitchen available, but you may have a nice breakfast each morning. There is no laundry as well, this may be a small problem.

Room decorated with some item on just about every surface. Hard to find place for wallet, coins, glasses, books, electronics.

However quite clean, good beds, and modern though small bathroom.

Got fussed at for turning off a table lamp (one of many) in the foyer. It was shining into our bedroom (glass door pane).

Was given one small bar of soap for three days. Looked for another in foyer cabinets and owner or someone called to ask what was going on. Apparently have hidden camera in foyer.

Breakfast: generous and good. Weak coffee.

Our experience was terrible here. The room was lovely and the location couldn't be better. However, the service is abominable. There is no one ever around the place except for the person who serves breakfast (sometimes). Although their published information says clear "Sie zahlen bequem am Abreis am morgens nach dem Fruehstueck" [You pay coveniently on the morning of your departure following breakfast,] and we were leaving Sunday morning as per our confirmed reservation, they demanded payment on Saturday morning. When we explained that we were orthodox Jews and don't handle money on the Sabbath (we would have been glad, of course, to pay on Friday), they threatened to kick us out on the street if we didn't pay on Saturday. I did pay, as I thought being on the street would involve worse violations of the Sabbath, violating a religious principle that I have never violated in more than 50 years. This behavior is, to say the least, religiously insensitive in insisting on this demand which violates their own stated terms of service. The reason for their strange behavior became clear when we were handed a sheet of paper informing us that we were not going to be served breakfast on Sunday in spite of the fact that the website advertises free breakfast. Their argument (on the sheet of paper) was that since it was a "free" breakfast they didn't need to provide it and we should go to a cafe nearby--at our own expense. These people are dishonest and unpleasant and have no business being in hospitality services. Don't go there!
I would like to add that the response of the owner to this review is simply untrue. We complained about nothing and demanded nothing; we requested if we could put food in the fridge in the room and they said no. That's all.

Never come back to this hotel again, horrible experience.
From the very beginning, the lady on the phone who's in charge acts impolitely, she is definitely the rudest German I've even seen.
Breakfast is always cold, the second day I ate was what I left from the first day. I notice that most of the snacks provided there are overdue for a long time. I've even pictured one small bag of coffee which should be best before Aug, 2012, can you imagine that?
Room 6 is totally out of the valid range of wifi, which means you cannot surf in your own room. The rude lady said that they had no problem with the internet, you should come yourself to the foyer. Never talk to her, the way it comes out just like that all is your fault.
Nobody speaks English, ok, no problem, but the problem is, people still feel the rudeness even if they cannot tell it immediately in your language!
I stayed here for 3 nights, only me in this old house. What I felt was not safe, free and comfortable, but scared, lonely and hopeless. No hot water to drink when caught a cold having pills to take, no one to ask for help, no friendly treatment for even one moment.
Besides, they will charge you extra fee for city tax at the end, but never tell you anything before. In one word, the facility and service deserve the price!
And of course, it is obviously forbidden to ask anything, unless you want to experience what's called hurt, disappointment and discrimination.
I behave myself, not because I'm a spineless coward, but because I don't want to be a person like her. I believe that it won't prosper (just suppose it once prospered long before to some degree) in the future even without my review.
I just tell the truth, that's all.

Unusual and eccentric. Not for everyone but an experience of staying in a traditional old Berlin home
