We were — like others - met with a scowl and a complaint that we sat down without signing in, we went to a table at the far end of the terrace because there is a global pandemic and we were keeping distance. Most restaurants bring sign in cards to the table so as not to expose other guests by unnecessarily walking through common spaces. Here ere is a check-in spot in the middle of the terrace, which we did not see at first. There’s no indication of where to check in, as the front door is locked. Apparently, this set us off on the wrong foot with the server right away. Who made sure to angrily tell us we did not sign-in.
We were relentlessly polite and smiley to try to diffuse the already angry server. While we waited for our food, I took our puppy out to the park making a loop from the entrance to the back gate, so he could relieve himself. On my return, I walked around the fence to find a way back in because the food had come. The gate from the park to the terrace was locked, even though it is clearly there for that purpose. There is no entrance without walking back to the end of the park (about 5 minutes extra). I carried the puppy over the low fence because my family and I received food and I wanted to sit with them. The server noticed me stepping over the low fence and I was told that anyone who jumped the fence is not welcome there and that I should leave immediately, despite the fact that we dropped 40 euros on food which was just served. I get having low fence for a reason (keeping non-guests and running dogs out), but to treat paying customers like this is completely unacceptable. Sadly, my children had to rush through their food because at this point I was too uncomfortable and upset to stay, and wanted to leave as soon as possible. I had just been told I was not welcome over nothing.
There are plenty of other places to go where paying customers aren’t subjected to another person’s rage, like what my family experienced today. My advice to others looking for a peaceful place to enjoy and afternoon, run. It is not worth having the day spoiled by such a toxic human being, saying that the service was bad is a gross understatement.
Follow up: the restaurant’s response to this review is simple proof of the unnecessary rudeness I experienced. Some attempt to normalize treating paying guests like intruders “jumping” over a 30 cm fence. The owner ironically continues bully guests online for being “upset” and "hysterical" going as far to say "Bad upbringing" because they left upset for being told "you are not welcome to eat the food you ordered", for no normal reason in the world. This person has zero empathy, no one with this level of hatred towards others should be in the service industry.
So sad, let’s all hope that this beautiful space finds new ownership soon.
