Wonderful museum and guided tour. The tour is a must as the guides are former inmates and can explain exactly how the place operated. At face value the prison and interrogation centres look ordinary; yet the whole place uses careful and subtle psychological means of abusing inmates. Often its residents were there under little pretext, other than being politically undesirable. The place is vast and looks like a soviet style housing complex. Tremendous value at €6 and easy to access by tram.

This tour was incredibly interesting and also very sad. An extremely important history lesson that is so recent. Its only €6, the tour guide we had was very informative and it was a really good, haunting experience. I'd recommend it if you're in berlin.

Fascinating prison turned museum from the DDR time. There were 17 such prisons in DDR at the time but none was more secret than the Hohenschönhausen prison. We took a guided tour which lasted two hours. Lots of interesting and rather amazing details about the prison, the inmates (political prisoners) but also details about the horrific psychological torture people here were subjected to.
Our tour guide was very detailed, perhaps asking a bit too many rhetorical questions and diving too deep into some points. Nonetheless it was a great experience and we can highly recommend a visit.

Interesting, interactive, and the tour guides are the people that have already serve their time in this prison in the time of GDR. I can highly recommend this place for the visit. Especially if you would like something to learn about German history after the WWII.

I went there today with my girlfriend and quite enjoyed the tour that we had. The woman eho gave the tour knew a lot and could answer all questions that were asked during the tour. I want to definitely go again .

We visited for a tour (€6 each) and spent almost 2 hours with Andrea, an exceptional guide, who gave a very informative view of Soviet rule during the time of segregated Germany. We also learnt about the conditions of prisoners and saw inside the cells.
Thank you so much for an excellent visit.

I dislike tours. I don't want to listen to historical facts. I loved this tour. The tour guide was brilliant. Able to explain the history of the prison with context, chronology and made me think about indoctrination and who does it and why. We saw the process of extracting confessions in a chilling way. I rarely rave
