Airlift Memorial

A post WW2 memorial dedicated to extensive airlift operation carried out by Western allies. It is in front of Tempelhof airport at a junction. The airport itself is closed now. This place is not so much on tourist map. I saw it while visiting old airport runway for walking and running.

This monument is on the approach to Templehof Airport so worth walking over to if you are going on the tour.
It’s theme is the path of a plane in the air.

Interesting monument in nice little park commemorating famous Berlin siege when Soviets closed western part. They were expecting to starve them but, unlike German 6th army in Stalingrad where that idiot Hermann Goering promised miracles similar to ones about protecting Germany from bomb raids, Allies were able to deliver enough provisions by flying over 200k sorties in one year. Soviets had to lift siege as airplanes were delivering more provisions compared with trains before the siege. One of first victories of West during Cold War. And along with pictures of park and monument I will present here some other places around park and particularly some nice graffiti.

The monument of historical significance is neither imaginative or impressive. It is located in a maintained park, but has no pedestrian lighting at night.

Really quite disgusting park. Filthy. With this somewhat ugly sculpture. Area worth exploring for it’s historic Weimar era housing.
