Waitresses have poor knowledge of their own menu. I ordered a vegan mean with a vegan side and a vegan dip. When the food runner ran the food to me, I saw the my vegan meal was topped with a fried egg. I clarified that I had ordered something vegan and she insisted this order was correct, handing me the plate and returning immediately to the kitchen. I gave the egg to another person at my table and saw that underneath was bacon as well. The problem was not only the initial mistake of the waitress, which can happen, but the attitude of the food runner who would not listen to me that I was being given the incorrect order. It is the waitress/waiter’s duty to understand the menu, and know that logging in the traditional dish that is known to come with egg and meat is obviously not going to come out vegan. There was a whole separate dish specifically labeled “vegan” which I ordered by name. This was not an amendment to another dish. Shame for the waste of food and I would hope for better training and oversight of waiters to ensure that they understand their own menu appropriately. If a person has an allergy, sensitivity, or other condition, it’s is absolutely imperative that waiters have a good understanding of the menu.
