This is by far one of the oddest memorials I've seen in Munich. This is supposed to be a monument to the late Renaissance composer, Orlande de Lassus. The residents of Munich have commandeered this monument and turn it into a memorial to the late great Peter Pan of pop, Michael Jackson. Fans of the pop star have laid down many tributes of flowers, photos and other MJ memorabilia.

Pity poor Orlande!

An interesting sight at Promenadeplatz is the bronze monument of Orlande de Lassus, the 16th century Franco-Flemish composer of the late Renaissance that has been taken over as a living memorial to American pop-artist Michael Jackson since his death in 2009.

Today you will find the pedestal and base of the Orlande de Lassus monument covered with posters, pictures, other manner of MJ paraphernalia, flowers and lit candles. It is an interesting collection of tributes and worth having a quick look-see if you plan to pass through the area.

Obviously, big fans of Michael Jackson will want to take the time to find this unofficial Michael Jackson Monument here at Promenadeplatz during visits to Munich.

One of the craziest things I saw. There is a statue of this dude, but it is actually a memorial for Michael Jackson! You can see all kinds of trinkets, posters and memorabilia of him on the statue's plint.
I read the city keeps removing the photos and stuff people leave, but the fans keep putting them back.
Seems the only reason this place is important Jackson-wise is because he was once it the hotel across the road :)))

Very strange to see a Michael Jackson monument in München.
Nice to see when you are in the neighborhood, but not worth a detour.

Honestly, And I really do mean this, one of the strangest things I’ve ever stumbled across. Randomly a huge amount of Michael Jackson stuff has commandeered a statue of an 1862 monument to the medieval Belgian composer Roland de Lattre, turning it into what can only be called a shrine.
