I couldn't have asked for more!
The Deutsche Eiche is my second home every time I'm in Munich – I've been staying at the hotel for 8 years and I'm looking forward to my next visit.
With its prime location, within striking distance of Marienplatz, the hotel is a great choice for those who'd like to explore the city on foot. The stunning high-spec guest rooms offer ample space while the wet rooms have a light and airy feel. The constant current in the guest rooms is a big bonus – you can charge your electronic devices, even when you're not in the room. The free drinks in the minibar, replenished on a daily basis, are a nice touch, too. My expectations have always been exceeded by the competent and smiling staff – they always go the extra mile to achieve customer delight. Always professional, friendly and ready to help. Always.
The ground-floor restaurant offers great food – delectable Bavarian dishes with a modern twist. The venue has many quirky features such as oak panelling, banquette seating and floor-to-ceiling mirrors – just as it was at the time of its well-known patron, Freddie Mercury. It also offers readings and organised tours – a real must for culture vultures.
The hotel also features one of the world's largest men's saunas for those you'd like to swap the city buzz for relaxation and invigoration. A great place to unwind after a long day and meet men from all walks of life. But the icing on the cake is the hotel's rooftop bar: it's a secluded place with great vistas over Central Munich and the Alps where you can enjoy a sundowner and catch some rays off the beaten track.
What I probably like the most about the Deutsche Eiche is their long-standing commitment to diversity and tolerance. They have been organising fundraisers and supporting charities against hatred and right-wing extremism in society. In fact, they also have a very diverse clientele – both leisure and business travellers belong to the regulars of the hotel, among which many families with children and LGBT+ people. As a guest, I'm glad to be part of the big Deutsche Eiche family.
