Visiting from America - I absolutely loved this museum. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and informative. There are different areas of museum property you can view, and the main exhibit is admission time spaced which is great for people traffic flow. Descending into the first part of the main exhibit, I got chills (not because it's cold). You are dropped directly into an archeological dig site. The flow of cultural information throughout the main exhibit is presented in chronological order, which I felt made for a very engaging experience. I felt like I wanted to keep reading, keep moving forward, keep discovering what happens next (as if I was reading a novel). I read every single exhibit placard (English translation was grammatically correct u0026 available on every placard). Display cases where minimally filled, which was enjoyable because I was able to focus on the relevance of that particular object. I do wish the lighting throughout was turned up just a little bit, but I can also understand the vision of having low lighting to illustrate the time in history this exhibit is representing. Not all of the audio guide plug ins worked for me. I did appreciate the way you can sort of customize the category of history you most want to learn about, with the interactive ticket to display screens. And I do wish the gift shop had more selection specific to the exhibit. I wasn't informed that part of the museum was closed prior to my entering the exhibit, but they do provide you with a QR code that links you to the rest of the exhibit information. It took me two hours (because I was reading everything), and I didn't view the museum in it's entirety. 9.5 out of 10!

Am glad that they are revamping the exhibits. Only some of the exhibits are available now and they reduced the ticket prices by 7euro to 9Euro. Although, the museum tried to use "technology" and interactive learning, I am not v impressed. At the end of the day, a good museum must be able to connect with the visitors emotionally and intellectually. Mere presentations of facts and data serve little purpose. But I see the museum potential but they should keep a close eye on costs and ticket prices too.

Excellent museum!
Make sure to check slots/availability.

+ great journey through the Hanseatic league history ; various dimensions are reviewed (societal, economic, technological...) using various communication channels (screens, objects) so that visitors of all ages and interests get their share

- not fully up to date in terms of sustainability: the museum distributes low quality earphones which easily break and create electronic waste ; one time chips are used to activate information through the museum instead of using a QR code ; air con temperature is too low

We look forward to coming back to learn new things in a more ecologically fit set up!

Brilliant museum u0026 archaeological site. Excellent displays that show and explain the lifestyle u0026 history of the area and brings history to life. Lots of information boards to explain items/scenes in more detail and available in several languages. Very good souvenir u0026 cafeteria. A must visit place if you're in the area.

Friendly staff, clear and interesting information about the Hanseatic period. Loved the interactive and modern way of imparting knowledge Worth a visit, but I would suggest for ages 10 and up.

Possibly one of the best museums I've ever visited! The tour was very informative and they made it in a very interesting way. Truly recommend buying the full ticket, so you can access the normal new museum as well as the old building.
