My comments are about the friendliness and helpfullness of the staff at Hotel Am Rathaus. My family and I were staying at another hotel nearby with abominable service, and when we needed help, Inigo at reception spent time helping us find another hotel, even though Hotel Am Rathaus was booked out that night. He went above and beyond, calling other hotels and a taxi for us once we found one. This is definitely the Altstadt hotel you want to be staying at!

Great location, just together with Marktplatz, some options of restaurants and bars. Few minutes walking to the old bridge

If I could give half ratings it would be 3.5!

The goods - The location was amazing!! The staff was friendly and the breakfast buffet was yummy. The bed was also comfortable.

The bad- the room decor is very dated. This may sound petty but everything was stained and old. If it just looked nice and old that would be different, but the carpet and chair were super stained and need replaced. Also, the stand for the tv was too small for the tv, the corner of the it was covered.

Also, be aware that if you get the top floor it is 80 steps! This was a lot with a 3 year old to go up and down those steps.

Kind service and a good breakfast made us feel at home. Location was perfect to get in and out. It would be my greed if I expected the facility to be better than the money I paid. There was no elevator, moreover the stairs were very steep.
But they brought heavy luggages to the room when checking in and even the lobby when checking out. The restaurant was cozy and the window with stained glass in the morning sun is very impressive.

This hotel is in the perfect location, right in the heart of the Altstadt. The reception is very warm and helpful, and breakfast is included. The rooms were dated, but very clean and comfortable. If you need to park a car, there is a discounted rate at one of the parking garages less than a 5 minute walk away.

I almost never write reviews, but I just had to write a review for this place because it was so good. I stayed here for three nights on the top floor (room 19). The view was beautiful! You can see the hills, the old bridge, and the red roofs of the city. The windows all open, so there is fresh air. The best thing about the hotel is the people who work there. There is no lift in the hotel, but my luggage was carried up by the hotel staff, and they will show you how to take the public transportation, and give you directions to wherever you need to go. Breakfast was also really good - but nothing warm if that is what you need. I will be back here next time I'm in Heidelberg!

We stayed on the second floor in room 7 in the middle of May. The room was clean, no problems. You can't beat the location, right in the middle of the Altstadt. Nice views from the windows. The personnel were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was tasty, though with instant coffee. On the downside, a bar in the same building thumped music and voices until 2 am. My earplugs took care of that. Also it's in need of a little renovation, like there was some ripped wallpaper in our room, and other minor blemishes.
