Really cool castle! The views of the city are incredible. The walk up is pretty steep so be prepared if you are going that way. Don’t miss the pharmacy museum and the giant wine barrel. The inner part of the castle costs 9 euros but it’s worth it. Also check out the garden in the back for even more great views.

Beautiful, highly recommend for a lazy stroll. The views of the palace and the city from the terrace is breathtaking. We went on a rainy day and still managed to have a great time. There’s a short hike, moderately steep but absolutely doable. Wear comfy shoes. I saw some cars up there too, so I guess it’s possible.

One of the best “ruins castles” in Germany. We really enjoyed the tour through the castle. The views of Heidelberg from the castle are fantastic as well. It is a bit of a hike to get up to the castle. I would recommend taking the tram if you have issues with climbing stairs and hills or have strollers or older folks with you. The climb is pretty significant. I have now been to this castle several times and I’d go back again and again. Such a great place with such an interesting history.

Beautiful castle ruins. One of the best I have ever visited. Lots of walking to see the best views, wear good shoes (trainers) and bring plenty of water.

I visited in 2002 while travelling though Europe and this was one of the highlights for me. The local town was absolutely stunning and full of life. Of course the beer was excellent.

Amazing views and wonderful medieval architecture awaits you at this place. Lots of steep pathways and beautiful gardens everywhere. The palace has a rich history and it does not disappoint. Would highly recommend packing a picnic with you and having it in the gardens of the palace.

It’s a must visit while in Heidelberg. For €9 you get to take the cable car to the castle and tour the ground of the castle. For an additional €6, you can join a guided tour to go inside the castle and listen to interesting history of the castle and stories about prince elector and his British bride Elizabeth Steward. The whole castle is magnificent and massive. Because it’s high up, it provides a beautiful view over the old town, the old bridge and the river from the top. If taking the tour, it will take at least three hours to visit the castle.

Ticket is included in cable car ticket. If you dont like climbing up like me I suggest you take the cable car. There is a pharmacy museum inside. Inside and outside there are many places to enjoy the view and take photos. You can take a private tour of the castle as well. There is also the largest wine barrel, wine tasting, museum shop inside.
